Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Flower Prep
Unwrap all your gorgeous flowers and gently shape the petals to make them look full and lively. These flowers will make your cake shine!
Step 2: Color the Lower Tier & Add Edible Glitter
Mix some of the mango dust with Everclear alcohol in a small dish to create a 'paint' for your cake. Take your brush and paint the entire lower base of the cake with the mango color. Don't worry about getting it perfect because we will cover it with the edible glitter next!
Pour some of the edible glitter into your hand and slowly roll up the sides of the cake and the top edge of the lower base, covering the mango color with the glitter flakes. Continue with the same process on the top tier by painting the sides and top of the cake with a bit of Everclear before applying the glitter. Use a clean, dry paintbrush to help move glitter around evenly.
Tip: If your paint dries faster than you expect and you haven't put the glitter on yet, put some Everclear in a spray bottle and slightly spritz the cake, holding the bottle at a distance so it doesn't make the alcohol drip down the cake.
Step 3: Paint the Flowers
Take small amounts of the dusts and mix with Everclear to make your cake paint colors. Watch the video to see how Chef Maeve paints the flowers with toffee and cappuccino, covering the petals of the dog rose spray and transforming the lily of the valley sprays with the sage and mango dusts.
Step 3: Arrange the Flowers
Start placing your flowers on the cake, beginning with the dog rose sprays mixing between cappuccino and toffee colors. If needed, spread out the petals after each spray is inserted.
Next, insert the lily of the valley sprays behind the dog rose sprays to fill around the cake. Spread the leaves to make the whole cake come to life.
Step 4: Finishing Touch
Go back with the toffee paint and touch some of the white buds with color to bring down the white color on the cake - but leave the yellow tips because they help pull together with the dog rose stamen.
Congratulations on creating this incredible Apricot Cake that’s perfect for enjoying as a statement centerpiece or after a lovely meal. With Chef Maeve’s design and your creative touch, you’ve crafted a true work of art.
